Why Choose Hercules SLR Load Binders
Load binders are used to safely secure loads in all sectors of the transportation industry, from long haul transportation to marine applications. Load binders fall into one of two styles – ratchet load binders or lever load binders, defined by their method of tightening. Also known as chain binders, ratchet binders are available at Hercules SLR in a variety of load ratings and sizes to properly work in tandem with your load chain.
Lever type load binders, also known as lever chain or snap binders, are made up of a lever with a tension hook on each end. The lever is used to tighten the slack on load chains by pulling one end of the tension hook and locking after a 180-degree rotation. This style of load binder requires a relatively high manual force to be applied by the operator, however, they are often much quicker and simpler to install.
Ratchet type load binders, also known as ratchet chains, have a tension hook on each side and tighten using a ratchet mechanism. When using a ratchet binder, the gears, handle, pawl and end fittings work together and increase the force manually applied to the tie-down assembly. This allows for proper securing without the need to apply as much manual force. While securing a load with a ratchet binder may take a few extra minutes, it is more controlled and ultimately deemed a safer process by many within the transportation industry.
