Meet one of our Rigger Technicians, Tim Kulak.
From Edmonton Alberta, we took the time to chat with Tim Kulak who has been in the rigging industry for 15 years. He was first introduced to Hercules SLR in 2012 as a contractor. During that time, he spliced loading slings. He then started full-time with Hercules SLR in 2016.
Over the years working at our Leduc branch, Tim has been allowed to work on countless projects and take many hands on courses to excel in his career. He has completed courses offered by Crosby, CM, LEEA Fundamentals of Rigging course and the LEEA Inspection certification course. Tim told us that he loves that you never know what the day at the shop will bring. He finds the different customer requests for splicing a way to keep the job interesting and cool!
Our Leduc branch keeps busy in the shop with things such as:
Slings
The common slings that our branch can produce are:
– Standard Wire Rope Slings
– Thimble Wire Rope Slings
– Soft Eye Slings
– Tri-flex Wire Rope Slings
– Synthetic Rope Slings.
Machine Press
The technicians in our shop use the machine press quite often. This is used to put sleeves on one wire rope to connect loops and form an eye in the wire.
Installs on winch trucks, picker trucks and roll-off trucks
Winch trucks can be used in many ways such as loading and unloading cargo on a truck, dragging another vehicle onto a truck, and so on.
A picker truck is an excellent option if you need something hoisted that is too big to lift manually. The truck’s boom controls a crane that can lift huge objects. We can supply drivers with wire rope, rigging hooks and other hardware that is needed for replacement or servicing.
Any truck that is responsible for loading/unloading and transferring portable or detachable containers from one site to another is referred to as a roll-off. We supply drivers with wire rope, chain, and other hardware when they need a replacement or simply need to be serviced.
Advice from Tim
Tim’s advice for someone looking to get into this industry is to know that it will be hard work, but it is very rewarding. Tim explained that rewarding feeling by emphasizing the importance of safety in the industry. Safety is not only a strong value of our customers but also within our team. Tim told us that, as a Rigger Technician, he takes pride in doing work for our customers and feels fulfilled knowing that the products our customers purchase are following safety standards when they exit our doors.
We have a full rigging shop that supports the sales, service, and repair of lifting and rigging and safety equipment, we stock leading name brands such as Crosby, Kito, CM, Tractel, Samson, Bridon-Bekaert and many others.
We provide testing, inspections, and repairs in-house or on-site. Our technicians are highly skilled and knowledgeable.
